Is My Home Ready for Solar?

Most homes in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, and Bulacan are suitable for residential solar panel installation. SolarPro Install assesses each property individually to confirm suitability and determine the correct system size.

Roof Type
SolarPro Install installs on concrete, metal, clay tile, and asphalt shingle roofs. Our typhoon-rated mounting systems are compatible with all common residential roof types in the Philippines. Flat roofs can be fitted with tilt frames at the optimal angle for maximum output.
Roof Area Required
A 3 kWp system requires approximately 18 to 20 square meters of unshaded roof area. A 5 kWp system requires approximately 28 to 32 square meters. SolarPro Install assesses your available roof area during the free site assessment and recommends the maximum viable system size.
Property Ownership
Solar panel installation requires that you own the property or have the property owner’s written authorization. Meralco net metering registration is tied to the property’s Meralco account. Renters may install solar with the property owner’s consent, though ownership of the system needs to be clarified in the tenancy agreement.
Monthly Meralco Bill
The strongest financial case for residential solar is a monthly Meralco bill of ₱3,000 or above. Lower bills can still benefit from solar, though the payback period extends. SolarPro Install will give you an honest savings projection during the site assessment based on your actual 12 months of Meralco billing data.

Residential System Sizes and What They Offset

Residential solar systems in the Philippines typically range from 3 kWp to 10 kWp depending on roof area and monthly consumption. Here is how each size matches to a typical Meralco customer.

3 kWp
Small to Medium Home — Bill ₱3,000 to ₱5,000/month
Generates approximately 450 kWh per month. Typically requires 8 to 10 monocrystalline panels and approximately 18 to 20 sqm of roof area. Estimated monthly savings of ₱2,000 to ₱3,500. Installation cost: ₱200,000 to ₱280,000. Payback: 5 to 8 years.
5 kWp
Medium Home — Bill ₱5,000 to ₱8,000/month
Generates approximately 750 kWh per month. Typically requires 12 to 14 monocrystalline panels and approximately 28 to 32 sqm of roof area. Estimated monthly savings of ₱3,500 to ₱5,500. Installation cost: ₱350,000 to ₱480,000. Payback: 5 to 8 years.
8 kWp
Large Home — Bill ₱8,000 to ₱12,000/month
Generates approximately 1,200 kWh per month. Typically requires 18 to 22 monocrystalline panels and approximately 44 to 50 sqm of roof area. Estimated monthly savings of ₱5,500 to ₱8,000. Installation cost: ₱560,000 to ₱680,000. Payback: 5 to 8 years.
10 kWp
Large Home or Small Business — Bill ₱12,000 to ₱20,000/month
Generates approximately 1,500 kWh per month. Typically requires 22 to 26 monocrystalline panels and approximately 54 to 62 sqm of roof area. Estimated monthly savings of ₱8,000 to ₱12,500. Installation cost: ₱700,000 to ₱900,000. Payback: 4 to 7 years.

Frequently Asked Questions About Residential Solar Installation

Can solar panels be installed on any type of roof?
Yes. SolarPro Install installs on concrete, metal deck, clay tile, and asphalt shingle roofs using typhoon-rated mounting systems. The roof must be in good structural condition. Our site assessment includes a roof structural evaluation before any system is designed.
How many solar panels does my home need?
A 3 kWp system uses 8 to 10 panels. A 5 kWp system uses 12 to 14 panels. A 10 kWp system uses 22 to 26 panels. The exact count depends on the panel wattage chosen. SolarPro Install determines the right panel count and configuration during the free site assessment based on your roof area and consumption.
Will solar panels damage my roof?
A properly installed solar mounting system does not damage the roof. Penetration points are sealed with waterproof materials. SolarPro Install uses mounting systems designed for Philippine weather conditions including typhoons and heavy rainfall.
Do solar panels work during a power outage?
Standard on-grid solar systems automatically shut down during a power outage as a safety requirement for Meralco linemen. A hybrid system with battery storage continues to power your home during outages. If backup power is important for your household, ask about our hybrid system options during the site assessment.
Can I install solar if I live in a subdivision or village?
Yes, in most cases. Some homeowners associations have guidelines on the appearance of rooftop installations. SolarPro Install can provide documentation required by HOAs and advises on compliance with subdivision rules before installation begins.
What warranty does the solar system come with?
Solar panels carry a 25-year linear performance warranty guaranteeing at least 80 percent output at year 25. Inverters are typically warranted for 5 to 10 years with extended warranty options. The mounting system and workmanship are warranted by SolarPro Install. Full warranty documentation is provided at system handover.
